Understanding the standard drink

So how much is in a standard drink?

One standard drink = 10 g of alcohol… but what does this mean in real terms? How many standard drinks are in a pint?

A single shot of spirit gives you about the same amount of pure alcohol as a 330 ml can of beer or a 100 ml glass of wine. They’re all around one standard drink. One standard drink takes around one hour for your body to break down.

All labels on alcoholic drinks state how many standard drinks are in the bottle. Importantly, one glass of wine isn’t necessarily one standard drink. If you only managed to get four glasses of wine out of a bottle containing seven and a half standard drinks; don’t feel cheated – each glass contained two standard drinks.
